where you can really start to take in the vast history of Istanbul.
Arriving at the TOPKAPI PALACE
and HAREM, the royal residence
and playground of the Ottoman Sultans, enter the ancient gates
into the lush palace grounds. Here walk in the footsteps of
courtesans and eunuchs, Grand Viziers and Sultans. This was
the powerhouse of the Ottoman Empire, a splendor that can still
be experienced. Highlights include the Sultan's kitchens with
an exquisite collection of over 12,000 pieces of porcelain,
the treasury, with a breathtaking display of jewellery encrusted
with precious stones alongside fine hand- crafted gold. The
palace also houses an array of Islamic relics, so revered by
Moslems. Experience the divine atmosphere of this most sacred
place.
Get your breath back with a lunch at the charming Konyali @
TOPKAPI MUSEUM. A short journey finds you in the ROMAN
HIPPODROME, which echoes with
the sound of ancient chariots, horse races and sculpted athletes.
Continue on to marvel at the wonder of the BLUE
MOSQUE, a huge edifice towering over the Bosphorus. Inside
emblazoned with blue Iznik tiles, a feeling of tranquility ensues
as you take in the amazing architecture. After, experience one
of the wonders of the ancient world, the magnificent masterpiece
of the Byzantine age; the 5th century ST.
SOPHIA BASILICA.
Before your senses are overloaded, take a welcome visit to the
UNDERGROUND WATER CISTERN. Built
during the Roman period, this cavernous place provides cool
and tranquil respite. Make a wish at the Tear Drop pillar before
you ascend to your HAMAM experience.
In the well-soaped hands of a trained masseur, relax and enjoy
the special Ottoman treatment at the ancient CAGALOGLU
TURKISH BATH. Built in 1741 this historical bastion of
cleanliness has played host to some A list celebrities including
The Queen of England's dethroned uncle, Edward V111, the composer
Franz Liszt and even Florence Nightingale, no doubt taking a

Stroll through ISTIKLAL STREET

A short walk finds you in PERA,
